Individually or in teams of 2-4, students work with local employers from late June to late August. This program provides youth with training and employment opportunities in the environmental field. It also helps employers enhance the local environment through projects.
There are summer work projects related to watershed management, waste-resource management, pollution prevention, air quality management, and environmental education & interpretation. Regular crew members work as a team with community-based employers on one of the mentioned environmental projects.
Qualifications: In accordance with the mandate of the Youth Corps, you must be a returning student within the target age group for this program (15-30). You must also be a team player, possess an understanding of environmental issues in Nova Scotia, be able to do physically demanding work, be willing to work outdoors under a variety of weather conditions, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Students must be able to attend a three day training camp at the beginning of July.
