The Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps was established in 1989 by the Province of Nova Scotia. Clean Foundation has been delivering Youth Corps on behalf of Nova Scotia Environment since September 2011.
The goal of the program is to provide Nova Scotia’s youth, aged 15-30, with training and employment opportunities within the environmental field, while providing services to communities in Nova Scotia for the betterment of the local environment.
The Youth Corps provides Nova Scotian youth with environmental work experience, an enhanced appreciation of the environment and their community, and develops skills for life-long learning (including team-building and leadership skills, increased knowledge for future employment and/or education ventures, and the ability to give back to their community and their environment). This program is a partnership between the Youth Corps, Nova Scotia communities, and youth.
In 2014, the Clean Foundation started the Aboriginal Leadership Program, partnering with aboriginal organizations to provide 15-week internships to university level students in the province. The leadership component has an increased focus on building career management skills and sustainability education to support youth as they transition to the workforce.
